I only ever really abbreviate names that are abbreviated in canon, like AJ and RD, and even then I tend to avoid pet names like Twily or Dashie.

I do shorten Rainbow Dash to Rainbow a lot (which I haven't noticed many other people do, they seem to prefer Dash). And I think I've only ever called Twilight's brother Shiny.

...ok, that pic is now headcannon for me. Changelings are able to pull a Kerrigan on other ponies and transform them into changelings.

My headcanon is that that cocoon was to keep her power low and to keep her alive so they could harvest the love Equestria feels for Celestia.
