I think that was less about being a princess and more about finding the "perfect stallion", but the idea of Rarity starting to mack on Twilight to become a part of the royal family is too good to pass up.

Also, I just realized that the finale totally missed the possibility of doing a joke where after the gala Rarity's affections had switched from Blueblood to Shining Armor, causing her to freak out when she realizes that he's Twilight's brother. I mean really, given that Rarity was basically fantasizing about the perfect stallion and Shining Armor is freaking named after that archetype, I'm kinda surprised that there isn't more Rarity/SA shipping.
