Yeah, I was just getting used to the relative limb/body/head sizes of the adult ponies, then it's suddenly all "bigger heads and stumpy limbs" and I didn't really adjust.

I never really liked the noses whenever they show them fully face on to the camera. Is there a trope for when character look weird on that angle?

No, but I agree. There probably isn't a great way to show them head-on without it looking odd, especially since they don't use shading. The outlines of the mouths when they're talking always look strange to me when we're looking at them head-on.

More recently, Shining Armour also had that issue.
