Even so, I think it was really bad call to jump into the competition like that, especially given that the Flim Flam's brothers' entire point was that the family couldn't produce cider fast enough. The real issue is that they agreed that quantity was going to be the sole factor in the challenge.

Well, yeah. It was definitely a bad call. But it was a believably (IMO) bad call made by a very prideful, very old pony, and the rest of the family was going to back her on that no matter what.
Maybe the flim flam brother could have bought apples from somewhere else?

Given that the Apple family makes their entire living off of apples, I'd think they'd at least be aware of other sources.
@Fallen: The brothers could have gotten apples somewhere else, but buying large quantities of apples and having them delivered to another town would drive their costs up, making it hard to compete with a family that has their own supply.
It was...something. I feel like I've heard the instrumental before.
Still, for 3 elementary school students, the performance was actually pretty good.
