@David: Admitedly yes, but the thing is Barbie is still more closely connected with "girl's stuff" than MLP. The latter is for female audiences, but it's more specifically about cute little animals than them doing anything particularly feminine (there are feminine characters, but no more so than the usual cartoon fare). FIM's main obstacle was getting past the Tastes Like Diabetes syndrome and making the cutesiness appealing to older viewers.

Barbie is designed more specifically to relate to young girls and their preferences. Though the fandom has extended a little in the past:

Pinkie would be forever homeless if she was going to build a house out of any kind of foodstuffs. Im betting she'd eat the majority of the construction materials before they even began to take shape

@Orion: It's from an old fairy tale, where a Witch lures children to cook and eat by attracting them with a house made of sweetened confectionary.

Of course, if there's anypony who might even consider baking herself a house out of food, it would be Pinkie

Speaking of fat Pinkie I remember there was a funny comic of Pinkie telling a changeling to turn into her, it then turn into a fat Pinkie, with the real Pinkie giving a very hilarious wtf face to it.
