I enjoyed A Canterlot Wedding, but I do tend to think some of the fans tend to hold it as this shining pinnacle for all to see, which can be bothersome. Ultimately, I thought it was a fairly strong pair of episodes, but I will agree there are some I'd consider better.
For me, the writing was just below par for the series. It got into
Anvilicious territory with the love theme, and the flashback to filly-Twi and teenage Cadence was a bit hamfisted in establishing her character.
But mainly, it's the matter of the confused moral of the first half: fake!Cadence's behavior, while not sterling, isn't
that outlandish for an expecting bride, so Twilight's evidence that something's amiss doesn't really hold up, and she
does come across as overly possessive of her brother, even if Cadence was being a jerk. The whole thing seems to be building to a moral having something to do with letting your loved ones make their own decisions even if they're not what makes you happy or something, but then that gets thrown out the window when it turns out Cadence really was a villain. The stated moral is to trust your instincts, but the more apparent moral is that if your brother's girlfriend doesn't like your friends, she's really a manipulative monster trying to steal your brother from you for the ebuls.
