Sigh, why must there be arguments about this.

It's like people are so adamant to make this show as Black and White as possible.

Kind of makes me wish we already had a Luna episode. It wouldn't stop emoluna warriors, but it would have something already canon.

^Speaking of Black & White, Luna and Celly are actually the sacred beasts of some God. As for Black and White Morality, people like it because it's convenient: they know what to think, what to feel, what to do. Borderline cases cause *gasp* autonomous thinking, and that requires effort, especially if you are not used to it.

I started watching the show before being exposed to many memes (Confound these ponies is the only one I can remember), so I can't really say.

Though the first time I tried to watch it, I accidentally ended up with some gen3 videos instead, so I was a little confused when watching the actual Fi M.

Only two more weeks until Luna gets a real personality... and we get to see how the fans attempt to spin it back into emo Luna.

Not that I really mind, I've seen some nice Emo Luna stuff. But still, a little variety is nice. I much prefer socially awkward and mildly xenophobic Luna.

Some conflicts on this show ARE Black and White (Discord for example) but more often than not the problems tend to fall into White and Grey territory (Gilda, Trixie, Photo Finish)

Luna's dilemma is strange because BOTH SIDES fucked up. Luna did to a greater extent than Celestia, but still. Both sides have reasonable motives, and both sides were sympathetic.

Yet people seem SO eager to disassociate Luna from the events entirely as soon as Nightmare Moon shows up.

News flash: She was remorseful, both sides were. She was forgiven for all the terrible things she did, and that was the point. It grinds my gears when someone waltzes up and says: "No, THAT'S NOT LUNA!!" since it undermines the very reason she was being forgiven.

What I don't get are the numerous SAD LUNA IS SAD ON THE MOON pictures. What, are the moon crates flooded with pony tears now?

btw, that "Free Luna" flash almost brought me to tears man.

Scientifically incorrect: there is no air on the moon, her tears would evaporate instantly, or freeze on her eyes. That's right, no lubricant, no blinking. I guess she developed serpentine eyes with built-in lids specifically to deal with that. Then she just went dormant. Also, all the while, she was in Nightmare mode, probably.

Still, all that fanart is pretty fucking moving, especially in that "true colors" clip.

Let us stipulate that Equestria's (is that the name of the planet?) moon has an atmosphere, if that will aid in scientific accuracy. Additionally, it is made of green cheese.

Didn't Word Of God say that Equestria may have borders?

How can you raise the sun over only one country? Also, the very idea of "raising the sun" means that the world is flat and has weird gravity.

The Expanded Universe, at least, has Equestria not be the whole planet. The iOS app Twilight Sparkle: Teacher for a Day refers to Equestria as a kingdom, and one of the German comics has Twilight, Applejack and Spike travel through the Everfree Forest to outside Equestria, where they meet a foreign Palette Swap of Big Macintosh.
