I think it's that jam is made from the whole fruit; skins and seeds, etc. Jelly usually removes those. It's also a lot smoother and less lumpy.

Jam has chunks of fruit in it, jelly doesn't. Strawberry jam and strawberry jelly are different.

Crowlover: I could see them possibly mellowing out when they get older, but I think whether it happens in the lifetime of the show or not depends on whether they let the CMC progress (namely getting their cutie marks).

@ Crow: Well as time progresses they're going to stop being jerks to the CMC but not get on friendly terms until when Diamond Tiara and Applebloom go to the same Art School and start a relationship, then Silverspoon and the rest of the CMC will get closer so they can all hang out together.
This is the only way that things can play out.

At this point, I don't think they really need one. Diamond Tiara is just a bully, but if the main 6 get one, it'll probably be some kind of big threat, like if maybe the changelings or Discord come back.
