Oh, well, I guess that's true. Still, are there any American phrases or words that you know of, but don't use?

I just found out the wedding Im going to in November is Victorian themed and formal. This means I have to squeeze my fat ass into a victorian-era styled ball gown.

[up][up][up] No, I mean, what are they specifically? I don't know which phrases are just American and which are common to everybody.

I hear that Americans say "half and half" to refer to tea with milk.

Then, your trainers are our takkies.

[up][up]Heh heh... "Landing the car" makes it sound like it can fly.

[up] Half and half is half cream, half milk. Also, I googled takkies, and if it means "shoes, " then no one here calls them trainers or takkies.

@Sereg Half and Half is literally just half milk, half cream. Some people prefer it in their coffee/tea to normal milk.

Do you really call stop lights robots, or is that a joke?

Never heard that before, then again I don't drink tea with my milk.

Then, your trainers are our takkies.

What kind of trainers?

Your cookies are our biscuits. Your biscuits are our scones.

Knew those.

Your traffic lights are our robots.

I don't know why, but that sounds funny/awesome.

@Sereg: I've never heard half and half used in that context; like Con said, half and half is a half cream half milk thing that you put in your coffee.

@Syd: That guy is currently waiting out the 24 hour posting ban. He'll probbaly pop in tomorrow.

Ah. I see that "trainers" is the British word. The American word is "sneakers".

How to talk (approximately) like a South African. Naturally, I try to avoid South African terminaology on the internet where I can.

I honestly don't know what confusing colloquialisms I use aside from the standard British English/ American English split. Well, other than the ridiculous amount of inside joke slang my friends used when we were in high school. Seriously, there's been at least on conversation we had that our parently literally had no clue what we were talking about.

Good to hear. He's turning into one of our most famous posters, and we haven't even met him yet. [lol]

I usually associate "half and half" with a mixture of half milk/half cream that you can buy in cartons. It's what I put in my tea.
