Action comedy stories are right up my alley. Slice of life is also a favorite of mine.

The Age of Wings and Steel is a pretty good one. Pretty long too; the author posts it in three-chapter sections. It's still ongoing though.

The problem with a premise like Aliens in Equestria, is what next? You can't just have a vague premise.

Anyway, rebooting now.

And just an FYI for those that are interested in Time Lords and terror et al, it's written EXTREMLY well, but just so you know the overall tone/style is more like a Doctor Who episode that takes place in Equestria, then a MLP episode featuring The Doctor. and it. is. GLORIOUS!

[up] if your talking about TLAT then easy given where they come from and how many actaully know what they are.

Some dude said crystal ponies may have the Eo H. I'm buying that.

Sorry I had to bail earlier, so did Pip ever reveal what secret he was keeping from us?

@Seraph Well, I'm not familiar enough with Dr. Who to be motivated to read a crossover with it. Not to mention my dislike of the "Dr. Hooves is a time lord" fanon to begin with. It just doesn't seem like my kind of story, regardless of how glorious it is.

Why is it that everything really good seems to be either a crossover, too grimdark for my tastes, or both? I must have narrower tastes than Ginger when it comes to these kinds of things...

I know that feel.
You watch him as he stutters over what to say. It's just a little game you play.

Actually what I was talking about is that since we have too many Human in Equestria stories, I thought it would be funny to write an Alien In Equestria story just to be different.

there's plenty of great non-crossover non grimdark fics

Just they tend to be shorter ones or one shots, the bug long epic ones tend to have one, the other, or both.

Alos very few pony fics are GRIM-dark, dark yes Grimdark no. Grimdark is the total and utter destruction of hope, everything sucks, the only lucky ones are the ones that die painlessly, nothing you do ever offers any long term hope. It's a story that revels in darkness. Cupcakes, GD, FOE, dark but not GD, etc...

[I'm posting as Moeprise]

No, you're just normal.

The only crossover I ever considered writing was Ponies/Ranma, but I found it easier to just have ponies act like Ranma characters instead (we already have some precedent for Pinkie Pie being like Kodachi...)

Never got the appeal of Grimdark.

@Seraph I'm running under a broader definition of Grimdark than you, I guess. I don't see how the hope at the end of a story should factor into what genre a story is. Genre is determined (IMO) by content, and stuff like FOE, which is filled to the brim with death, destruction, gore, rape, etc., fits the bill quite nicely, regardless of the message of hope it sends in the end. Just plain Dark tones it down, but still conveys the heavy themes and content.

I think he's wondering if the Surprise on Deviantart is the same as Surprise, the sockpuppet account.

Long story short: Moe Dantes created his version without knowing others had already used the character so there's a lot of Divergent Character Evolution.

EDIT: Surprise is a pony from the 1980s toy line who Lauren Faust claimed was the inspiration for Pinkie Pie.

Far as I know Grimdark means something that could fall into Darkness-Induced Audience Apathy yeah probably need something in between dark and grimdark.
