My theory was that after Luna's "Incident" Celestia could not bear to be near the old castle and relocated to Canterlot.

With Cadence...I really don't know. I'm pretty sure that Blueblood's title is probably just as social thing (he was originally supposed to be a Duke, if I remember right), but the fact that Cadence is an alicorn implies that she's a fair bit more important than he is. Just have to wait and see, I guess.

True enough. Then again Cadence herself was originally only supposed to be a unicorn so who knows how this all ended up coming together the way it did.

Anyway let me dissuade further arguments on things by posting this.

I'm fairly sure that Cadance isn't the same sort of creature as Celestia and Luna though. For one thing, we know she ages normally. To me, she's a winged unicorn, while Celestia and Luna are Alicorns.

@CDRW Who's to say that she's not just young? She'll probably hit around Luna's size in a couple decades and then stop growing/grow very slowly, IMO.

We know from Twilight Sparkle: Teacher for a Day/Twilight Sparkle's Special Lesson that the unicorns magically built Canterlot after Equestria's founding, and we saw how dazzled Princess Platinum was with the jewels to be found in Equestria, so yeah, the forgotten gem mines beneath Canterlot make a lot of sense.

@ed That is exactly what they've told us repeatedly. They don't have some sort of universe bible or anything that they run off of, they just think of the details as they decide that they want to show them.

Somehow I get the feel it's kinda like Terry's Discworld where the world is giving us ideas of its shape and the writers just put it in.

If the showwriters were brave enough they could try to pull off a story about Cadence getting pregnant. It would be hilarious to see how the fanbase would react to that.
